The Southern branch of the SE “Forests of Ukraine” has begun creating the first bicycle route in southern Ukraine, which will run through the territory of the Trykrat Forest in Mykolaiv region. The future trail is expected to connect the most famous natural and historical locations of this unique forest area.

The Trykrat Forest is called one of the natural gems of southern Ukraine. Amid the steppe landscape, more than two centuries ago a man-made forest was planted here, which today combines centuries-old oaks, granite canyons, steep cliffs, forest water bodies and picturesque natural scenery.

One of the stops on the new route will be the tract “Labyrinth”. It is a network of winding alleys laid out among old oaks during the time of Count Viktor Skarzhynskyi.

Cyclists will also be able to visit the May Meadow, which in spring is covered with various steppe and forest plants. The route will also include a 300-year-old oak — one of the main symbols of the Trykrat Forest and a living witness to its long history.

Another point will be the White Cliffs — outcrops of light granite that formed over millions of years. The route will also pass through the Arbuzyn Canyon — one of the most famous natural landmarks of southern Ukraine with steep granite slopes.

The list of locations will include the tract “Vasyleva Apiary”, where the history of traditional forest beekeeping is preserved. A separate stop will be a forest lake, near which various species of wild animals and birds live.

The Southern branch of the SE “Forests of Ukraine” promises to fully signpost the bicycle route. At key stops they plan to install modern information boards with descriptions of natural features, the history of the area, navigation and rules for safe presence in the forest.

The state enterprise noted that the development of the route should become part of the development of recreational infrastructure and the promotion of Ukraine’s natural heritage.

“We aim for Ukrainian forests to become not only places for nature conservation, but also spaces for active, educational and safe recreation”.

Back in 2017 Oleksandr Senkevych promised that the first bike lane in Mykolaiv would appear in the Korabelnyi district. Later it was planned in the Pivnichnyi microdistrict, and in 2024 — on Namyv.

In 2021 Vitalii Kim announced about 70 kilometers of bike lanes that were to connect Mykolaiv with the region’s resorts, Odesa and Kherson. That same year along the road Mykolaiv — Parutyne — Ochakiv — Chornomorka they promised almost 56 kilometers of bike lanes.
