Mykolaiv region is breaking temperature records: soil temperatures up to +69°C
The dry winds lasted 3–8 days, reducing air humidity to 30% or less and accelerating the drying out of the soil
At the end of June, an anomalous rainless heat settled over Mykolaiv Oblast, causing a rapid loss of productive moisture in the soil, the development of soil drought and deterioration of crop conditions; during the day the soil surface in places heated up to +69°C, and rainless periods lasted up to 23 days, the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Hydrometeorology reported.
According to meteorologists’ calculations, by the end of June most districts had no precipitation for 12 to 23 days, whereas in Bashtanka the rainless interval was limited to 7 days, but due to the heat there was daytime loss of turgor in stands of industrial crops, indicating severe water stress.
The ten-day average air temperature in the third ten-day period of June exceeded the climatic norm by 3.0–4.6 degrees and ranged from +24 to +26.6°C.
Meteorologists noted that in Mykolaiv, Bashtanka and Ochakiv such high mean daily values at the end of June were recorded for the first time over the entire observation period from 1994 to 2025, whereas in Pervomaisk, Voznesensk, Snihurivka and Berezanka similar heat occurred only in isolated years — 2009, 2016, 2017 and 2021.
Maximum temperatures on the hottest days rose to +34…+38°C, with the number of days above +30°C ranging from 4 to 10, and days above +35°C — from 1 to 3 days, with the exception of Pervomaisk.
At night the air cooled to +13…+17°C, the soil surface to +12…+16°C, while during the day the soil warmed to values extreme for plants — +62…+69°C.
There was almost no precipitation across the region, except for a local downpour on 23 June in Bashtanka, where 8 mm fell, which corresponds to 29% of the ten-day norm.
Average relative humidity remained within 47–57%, however for 3–8 days it fell to 30% and below almost everywhere except Pervomaisk, and dry winds persisted for 3 to 8 days, intensifying the negative impact of the heat on agricultural crops.
Previously, new temperature records in the region were reported.
