Cars worth 20 million in a year: the happy family of Mykolaiv’s former head of the traffic police, Hennadiy Pogorelov
From the traffic police to million-dollar electric cars: Nikcenter "unpacked" the Pogorelov family
Mykolaiv Center for Journalistic Investigations published a video blog “Unpacking a vehicle fleet worth 20 million: where did the money come from for the family of the head of the RSC in Mykolaiv?”, which discusses the new expensive cars of the family of an official of the Ministry of Internal Affairs service center.
The family of the deputy head of the Regional Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the southern regions Hennadiy Pohorielov in 2025 added approximately UAH 20 million worth of new cars to their fleet. The official’s relatives mainly invested in electric cars. A 21-year-old grandson of the official is mentioned separately. According to journalists, he owns:
- a Audi car with an estimated value of about UAH 8 million;
- a 116 sq.m apartment on the Odesa coast.
The deputy head of the RSC in Mykolaiv, Odesa and Kherson regions Hennadiy Pohorielov together with his wife purchased a Zeekr 001 2024 model car worth UAH 2 million. According to the declaration, the official also used a BMW 530I 2020 model, which likely belongs to his relative.
Pohorielov also declared USD 79,000, EUR 31,000 and UAH 114,000 in cash, as well as nearly UAH 150,000 in bank accounts.
His annual income in 2025 — UAH 927,365 in salary and UAH 309,378 in pension. Also last year the official from the village of Halytsynove received UAH 114,776 from the sale of electricity under the green tariff.
And his wife received “charitable assistance provided to individuals living in settlements where hostilities took place” – UAH 8,520.
We remind that around the institution, which Hennadiy Pohorielov currently almost heads, corruption stories related to the sale of driver’s licenses have repeatedly arisen. In the criminal proceeding, according to journalists, the following currently figure:
- an administrator of the TSC in Mykolaiv;
- representatives of driving schools;
- a police officer;
- an employee of the State Emergency Service (DSNS).
At the same time, Hennadiy Pohorielov himself is not mentioned among the suspects in this case, according to Nikcenter.
It was previously reported that Hennadiy Pohorielov, the former head of the Regional Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Mykolaiv region and now deputy head of the RSC in Mykolaiv, Odesa and Kherson regions, together with his wife in 2024 became the owner of a Zeekr 001 2024 model car. Journalists estimated the value of this car at approximately UAH 2 million.
In 2024 the official incomes of Hennadiy Pohorielov amounted to:
- salary for the position of deputy head of the RSC – UAH 760,954;
- pension – UAH 307,189.
Separately, we recall the conclusions of the NACP. In August 2024 the agency found inaccurate data in the official’s declarations. It concerned unconfirmed cryptocurrency.
