Instead of junk — ammunition: what police found in an abandoned building
In the Bashtanskyi district police discovered and destroyed dangerous munitions. This was reported on 28 April 2026 by the police of Mykolaiv region.
While patrolling the territory of the Snihurivska community, officers of the local police unit came across a suspicious find in the basement of an abandoned building. The stash contained munitions, after which the law enforcement officers immediately informed their explosive ordnance colleagues. Specialists from the regional explosive ordnance disposal department of the police headquarters arrived at the scene. During the inspection they determined that the found items were 120 mm mortar rounds and an unguided aerial rocket.
Due to the high level of danger, the munitions were not transported. The explosive ordnance technicians decided to destroy them immediately and carried out a controlled detonation directly near the place of discovery.
The police noted that the detonation was carried out with strict adherence to all safety measures.
