The best Shevchenko reciters from across Ukraine were announced in Mykolaiv
During the festivities, the winners of the competition and the Shevchenko Prize laureates from the Mykolaiv region were honored
In Mykolaiv, within the walls of the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding, on March 12 the winners of the All‑Ukrainian reciters’ competition of Taras Shevchenko’s works were honored, and laureates of the Shevchenko Prize from the region were also commemorated.
The event was timed to the anniversary of the Kobzar’s birth and the 65th anniversary of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine. Participants showcased their skill in reciting works from «Kobzar», poems from the collection «Three Summers», the cycle «Captivity Poetry», Shevchenko’s ballads, and also read works by prize laureates and authors inspired by Shevchenko’s legacy.
People’s Artist of Ukraine Євген Нищук addressed the organizers and the student community with gratitude for their resilience and consistent support of Ukrainian culture, emphasizing the symbolic importance of holding such an event at the university, which continues to operate despite the challenges of war.
“— Let the Ukrainian language ring loudly across the whole world. Let us fight — we will prevail, God helps us! — he said.”
As part of the celebration, the premiere of Mykola Arkas’s opera «Kateryna», based on Shevchenko’s poem of the same name, took place on the university stage. The performance was provided by artists of the Opera and Vocal Studio named after N. Zapadynska under the direction of Ivan Nosyk with the participation of the «ARS NOVA» symphony orchestra of the Mykolaiv Regional Philharmonic; the conductor at the podium was Andriy Kryvoruchko.
