In the Khmelnytskyi region, the head of a charitable foundation in 2024 embezzled more than 1 million hryvnias in donations for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Police reported.

According to the investigation, the man opened a special account to collect funds supposedly “for the purchase of vehicles for the military.” About 700 thousand hryvnias were deposited into that account, which he, according to law enforcement, took for himself.

Later the suspect persuaded two acquaintances who are servicemen to transfer another 400 thousand hryvnias to buy a vehicle. Despite the transferred funds, the military did not receive the vehicle necessary to carry out combat and logistical tasks.

Investigators established that the “charity organizer” used the money received from donors for his own needs.

The suspect has been charged under part 3 of Article 201-2 and part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

He has been placed under house arrest.
