In Kyiv, employees of recruitment centers were exposed for helping people evade the draft
The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has shut down a group that tampered with state registers and, for money, facilitated evasion of mobilization; the suspects face up to 10 years in prison
March 4 The State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) reported the dismantling in Kyiv of a group that, by interfering with state registers, enabled evasion of conscription by persons liable for military service.
According to the investigation, the scheme involved servicemen from local and regional TCC and SP, a former law enforcement officer and an unemployed resident of Kyiv.
The illegal actions consisted of entering false information into the electronic system «Oberih» and unjustifiably removing men from the military register; law enforcement officers established more than 80 such incidents, of which at least 31 people left the country and did not return.
Clients of the scheme were serviced for a fee — according to the DBR, they charged $4,000 per person for removal from the register; more than 15 incidents of the group’s activity have been documented, and the monthly profit exceeded approximately $60,000.
During a subsequent transfer of funds, law enforcement officers detained the suspects: the operation took place during the handover of about $5,500, and a former operative officer and a middleman were detained.
Three people have already been notified of suspicion in this case; the sanction of the charged article provides for punishment of up to 10 years imprisonment.
