A 1.99-metre clearance earned Yaroslava Mahuchikh historic gold in Budapest

A Ukrainian woman became the first champion of the new world tournament

Ukrainian track and field athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh won the gold medal in the women’s high jump at the first-ever Absolute World Athletics Championships. The competition is being held in Budapest, the result was reported by SportArena.

At first Mahuchikh cleared the bar at 1.91 meters on her first attempt, after which she cleared 1.95 meters. The winning 1.99 meters was cleared by the Ukrainian athlete on her second attempt. This result brought her the gold and a historic title.

Other finalists showed the following results:

  • Australian Nicola Olyslagers, Mahuchikh’s main rival, cleared 1.95 meters and finished in second place;
  • Ukrainian Iryna Herashchenko, with a result of 1.91 meters, finished fifth;
  • Ukrainian Yuliya Levchenko cleared 1.86 meters and ended the tournament in sixth position.

Yaroslava Mahuchikh became the first-ever winner of the Absolute World Championships in the women’s high jump. The tournament in Budapest runs from 11 to 13 September, and its total prize fund amounts to 10 million dollars.
