In Mykolaiv, a man, according to the investigation, struck a passerby in the face and seized her bag containing a mobile phone and 1700 hryvnias. After the attack, he went to a gas station to have coffee, where police detained him. The pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the indictment has been sent to court.

The incident occurred at midnight on July 1 on Andriy Pokrovsky Street. The victim was returning from work when, near a residential building, an unknown person struck her and took her bag.

Within an hour after the attack, police established the whereabouts of the 41-year-old man. He was lawfully detained at a gas station in accordance with procedural rules.

With the agreement of prosecutors of the Mykolaiv City District Prosecutor’s Office, the man was notified of suspicion under part 4 of article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This concerns a robbery committed under martial law.

Investigators of the police have now completed the pre-trial investigation, and prosecutors have approved and sent the indictment to court for consideration on the merits.

For the charged crime, the defendant faces up to 10 years of imprisonment.

According to article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt has been proven in accordance with the law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
