The first monument to Mykola Arkas has been installed in Mykolaiv

The first monument to the prominent Ukrainian cultural and educational figure, composer, historian and writer Mykola Arkas. appeared in Mykolaiv on July 15, 2026.

The initiative to install the sculpture came from fighters of the combined detachment “Buzkyi Gard” and concerned townspeople, reported Illia Zelinsky.

“Carry forward statehood, strengthen Ukraine and continue the work of our forebears in the struggle for it! On this day, thanks to the fighters of the combined detachment “Buzkyi Gard” and concerned townspeople, the first monument to Mykola Mykolayovych Arkas appeared in Mykolaiv!” — he wrote.

The granite likeness of Mykola Arkas was created by sculptors — father and son Oleksandra Kanibora. Work on the monument lasted almost one and a half years.

A twelve-ton block of granite was used to make the sculpture, from which the craftsmen carved away about four tons of stone. Mykola Arkas was depicted sitting beside a stack of books: he holds an open book on his lap and gazes dreamily into the distance.
