An architectural monument from the early 20th century has been left without adequate protection: the prosecutor's office has filed a lawsuit

The District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Mykolaiv has filed a lawsuit against the owner of a historic mansion in the city center. Prosecutors are seeking to oblige him to conclude a protection agreement for an architectural monument of local significance. The prosecutor’s office reported this on 27 August 2026. The official notice does not include the exact address of the monument or the name of its owner.

This concerns the cultural heritage object “Residential building — mansion. Early 20th century”. The prosecutor’s office noted that the building has significant historical and architectural value. The mansion stands out for its decorative design, in particular its unique plant ornamentation on the facade and windows. In March 1997 the house was entered into the state register as an architectural monument of local significance. However, for nearly 29 years its owner has still not concluded a protection agreement.

The protection agreement must specify:

• the regime of use for the historic building;
• requirements for its maintenance;
• conditions for carrying out repairs and other works;
• measures necessary to preserve the monument.

The prosecutor’s office believes that concluding the agreement will help protect the mansion from damage and destruction. At present the prosecutor’s office has only filed a lawsuit. There is no information yet about the opening of proceedings or any court decision.
