On Saturday, 12 September, Mykolaiv celebrates City Day. The morning in the hero city began with a moment of silence and a tribute to the defenders who defended its freedom. The ceremony was reported by the Mykolaiv City Council.

Near the temporary Alley of Glory, representatives of the authorities, foreign partners and city residents gathered:

  • mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych;
  • Member of Parliament Oleksandr Haidu;
  • deputy mayors;
  • secretary of the Mykolaiv City Council;
  • head of the Mykolaiv Regional Council Anton Tabunshchyk;
  • representatives of the Embassy of Denmark headed by Jakob Torrild Hansen;
  • international partners;
  • residents of Mykolaiv.

Those present honored the memory of the soldiers who, in the first days of the full-scale invasion, stopped the occupiers’ advance and thwarted their plans, giving their lives for it.

Participants in the ceremony emphasized:

Our heroes made Mykolaiv an unshakable stronghold in the south. Their feat is our freedom and the ability to live, work and speak our native language on our own land.

Mykolaiv residents left flowers at the memorial as symbols of gratitude, respect and mourning for every fallen defender.
