A quarrel on the avenue ended with a sentence: a man in Mykolaiv robbed a 16-year-old girl

At the Central District Court of the city of Mykolaiv handed down a sentence on a 26-year-old previously convicted man who was accused of robbing a 16-year-old girl. The court found him guilty under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to 7.5 years of imprisonment.

According to the court materials, the defendant and the 16-year-old girl were near one of the buildings on Central Avenue in Mykolaiv. A conflict arose between them. During the quarrel the man grabbed the girl by her bag, from which a mobile phone “Samsung” fell out. After that he picked the phone up from the ground and left the scene. In court the defendant did not admit his guilt. He said that the day before he and the girl had been drinking alcoholic beverages at an acquaintance’s, where they stayed overnight.

According to his version, in the morning they went to the girl’s relative, both were tipsy and began to argue on the way. The man claimed that the girl behaved aggressively, and her bag fell to the ground several times. The defendant stated that he took the phone not to appropriate it, but allegedly to “teach the girl a lesson”. According to him, he said he would return the phone when she calmed down, and also told her that he would be at the bus station.

The victim gave a different version of events in court. According to her, after staying overnight at the acquaintance’s they were walking to her relative when the man began to harass her. She pushed him away, after which her bag fell and the phone fell out of it. The girl reported that the defendant took the phone and walked away. She tried to get the mobile phone back, but the man pushed her away. He did not tell her where he was going afterwards.

After that the victim contacted the police and reported that the man might be at home or in the area of the bus station. After examining the case materials, the court concluded that the defendant’s guilt was proven.

As a result of the hearing, the court found the man guilty under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – robbery committed in conditions of martial law, and sentenced him to 7.5 years of imprisonment.
