Mykolaiv native, Olympic fencing champion Olha Kharlan has become a mother. After the birth of the child the six-time Olympic medalist posted an update on social media.

The athlete gave birth to a daughter, who was named Arianna.

For Mykolaiv this news has special significance: Olha Kharlan is one of the city’s most famous natives, an athlete who for years has brought fame to Ukraine on the world stage and remains a symbol of strength, dignity and steadfast principles.

Olha Kharlan is the most decorated Ukrainian athlete in the history of the Olympic Games. She has — 6 Olympic medals to her name, including the team “gold” of Paris 2024, which the Ukrainian sabre fencers won in the final against South Korea.

It was after the 2024 Olympics that Kharlan finally cemented her status as a sporting legend of Ukraine. She became not only the record-holder for the number of Olympic medals among Ukrainian athletes, but also one of those who, during the full-scale war, speak openly about Russian aggression and support Ukrainian defenders.
