A soldier died in a capital city hospital after being wounded at the front: police are investigating the conduct of the medical staff

In Kyiv, the police opened a criminal case after the death of a 42-year-old man in one of the capital’s emergency hospitals. This was reported on 13 June 2026 by the Main Department of the National Police in the city of Kyiv.

According to law enforcement, a report of the patient’s death was received by the police on 9 June 2026. A forensic-operational team from the Desnianskyi Police Department was dispatched to the scene.

Investigators opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine in connection with the man’s death. Such a qualification is often used at the initial stage of an investigation so that law enforcement can establish all circumstances of the death.

According to preliminary information, the deceased was a serviceman. Since April 2026 he had been receiving treatment at a capital hospital after sustaining severe gunshot wounds received on the front.

As part of the investigation, a number of examinations have been ordered. They are to determine the exact cause of the man’s death and to assess the quality of the medical services provided to the patient by hospital staff.

Separately, under the procedural guidance of the district prosecutor’s office, investigators are conducting an investigation under Part 1 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This concerns possible improper performance of professional duties by medical personnel.

The police are not currently disclosing the name of the medical facility or other personal information about the deceased. Final conclusions regarding the causes of death are to be made by experts.
