Mother gave her children for begging: she valued her 11-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter at $1,000

In Zakarpattia, the court sentenced a 32-year-old woman to 8 years imprisonment with confiscation of property. She was found guilty of trafficking her own young children, whom she agreed to hand over to a third party for begging for $1,000.

The Office of the Prosecutor General reported this.

The prosecution in court was supported by the Khust District Prosecutor’s Office. According to the investigation, a resident of the village of Ilnytsia agreed to hand her children over to another person for exploitation for two weeks.

“The Khust District Prosecutor’s Office proved in court that a resident of the village of Ilnytsia agreed to transfer her 11-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter to a third person for their exploitation for two weeks. She planned to receive $500 for each child,” the statement reads.

The woman was detained on 8 April near Irshava immediately after receiving the money. Since then she has been held in custody.

During the trial the accused admitted her guilt and expressed remorse. At the same time, taking into account the evidence presented, on 12 June 2026 the court found her guilty under Part 3 of Article 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — trafficking in persons involving minors, committed by a mother for the purpose of exploitation.

The children were placed under the care of their grandmother. They are currently safe.
