Today in the Mykolaiv region a rare atmospheric phenomenon — virga — was recorded, the Mykolaiv Hydrometeorological Center reported, and the photo was taken by the head of the marine hydrological station Ochakiv, Oleksandr Kabakov, near the settlement of Kaborga on the Berezansky estuary.

The Hydrometeorological Center explained that virga is precipitation that falls from a cloud but does not reach the ground surface because it evaporates in a dry layer of air.

Intense evaporation beneath the cloud layer forms characteristic streaks resembling rain curtains, which are clearly visible from a distance even when the precipitation does not reach the ground.

The author of the photo, head of the Ochakiv Marine Hydrological Station Oleksandr Kabakov, captured the phenomenon near the settlement of Kaborga on the shores of the Berezansky estuary in Mykolaiv Oblast.
