In the Halytsynivska community, a hostile drone destroyed a house and killed animals
A fundraiser has been announced to rebuild the house
In the evening of 22 August 2026 Russian forces attacked a private house in the Halytsynivska community with a Molniya-type drone. 38-year-old Svitlana Huk and her 13-year-old daughter managed to run into the house and hide behind a wall just a few seconds before the explosion.
At first the Regional Military Administration (OVA) reported one injured person – a 38-year-old woman who received medical assistance. She did not require hospitalization and continued treatment on an outpatient basis. Later a NikLife correspondent who spoke with the family clarified that the 13-year-old daughter of Svitlana Huk was also injured.
At the time of the attack Svitlana was in the yard. The woman saw the Russian drone begin to turn and fly directly toward her house. Mother and daughter immediately ran for the house. They managed to run into a room and hide behind a wall literally a few seconds before the explosion. After the strike, in Svitlana Huk her ears were ringing and she felt severe pain in her head.
The explosion destroyed the front part of the house and severed electrical wires. The family was left without power. Windows were blown out in almost every room, and the annexes were also damaged. The blast wave also blew out windows in the neighboring house.
Svitlana Huk’s face and legs were cut by shards of glass. One of the fragments hit her neck, causing blood to soak her clothes.
Their pets ran into the house along with the mother and the girl. However, the fragments killed the kitten that belonged to the daughter of Svitlana Huk and one of the family’s dogs. After the explosion the woman ran into the yard and saw the mutilated bodies of the animals. The dog lay among the debris on the doorstep of the house with a severe, fatal head wound, and the kitten’s body was shredded by fragments.
Svitlana Huk began to scream and cry loudly. Her neighbors heard her and immediately ran to help. The woman admitted that she cried most not because of the destroyed house but because of the dead pets. She personally pulled their bodies from under the debris. The family buried the dog and the kitten in the garden next to the damaged house.
The death of the animals was especially painful for Svitlana Huk because she constantly helps stray animals: she feeds them, treats them, and looks for shelter for them. Overall the woman cares for approximately 20 animals and also helps the local shelter.
The owner of the local shelter, Olya, said that after the attack Svitlana called her and sobbed into the receiver, reporting the deaths of the animals and the destruction of the house.
A fundraising drive was announced for the family left with a damaged home without windows or electricity.
