In Mykolaiv, a 53-year-old man took a phone from the table and did not object to pretrial detention
The episode was charged under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — during martial law this carries a sentence of 7–10 years' imprisonment
In Mykolaiv an investigating judge of the Central District Court chose a preventive measure for a suspect in an open theft of a mobile phone: remand in custody with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 99 840 hryvnias; it concerns a local resident aged 53.
The ruling was reported by the press service of the Central District Court of the city of Mykolaiv, noting that the suspect is charged with openly taking a phone from its owner.
From the motion’s materials it follows that the man, passing by a summer terrace of a shop on Zakhysnykiv Mykolaieva Street, saw a mobile phone on a table left by its owner, who was sitting at that table.
Approaching closer, the suspect took the device and walked away, despite the victim’s attempts to stop him, after which he left the scene.
The actions are qualified under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — robbery committed on a large scale or under conditions of martial law or a state of emergency; the prescribed punishment is imprisonment for a term of from 7 to 10 years.
During the hearing the defense requested house arrest for their client, while the suspect himself did not object to the preventive measure of remand in custody.
Investigating judge of the Central District Court of Mykolaiv Volodymyr Lyashchenko ruled to apply remand in custody with the alternative of bail in the amount of 99 840 hryvnias.
