A nighttime drive ended in tragedy: a VAZ ran off the road and overturned; a young driver was killed
The road did not forgive mistakes: one dead, three injured
Mykolaiv Region police reported a fatal road traffic accident that occurred late in the evening on 26 April 2026 in the Snihurivska community of Bashtanka Raion.
According to law enforcement, at approximately 23:20 on the road between the settlements of Znam’yanka and Trudolyubivka an accident occurred involving a VAZ-2106 vehicle driven by a 28-year-old driver. Preliminary findings indicate that the driver, while driving, left the carriageway. After that the vehicle overturned.
As a result of the crash the driver died at the scene. Three other passengers aged 19 and 20 years, who were in the vehicle, sustained bodily injuries of varying degrees of severity.
Investigators have opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of road safety rules or vehicle operation that caused the victim’s death. The police are establishing all the circumstances of the accident and are appealing to possible witnesses. The Transport Crime Investigation Department of the investigative unit asks citizens who witnessed the incident or have any information about the circumstances of the crash to contact: 093-714-45-20 or 102.
Nighttime accidents on Mykolaiv region’s rural roads often have the most severe consequences: darkness, speed, road surface condition and loss of control of the vehicle can turn a trip into a tragedy in a matter of seconds.
