In the Korabelnyi district of Mykolaiv (at Bohoyavlensky Avenue, 301/2) on Friday, March 27, 2026, a new social adaptation space was ceremonially opened, designed primarily to help vulnerable groups of the population adapt to new living conditions and the challenges of war. At the same time, anyone who needs support today can use its services. The center is open to everyone, including people with disabilities, elderly residents, families of fallen servicemembers, and families with children.
The project was implemented (on the basis of the district day-stay department of the city territorial center for social services) through the joint efforts of the city, UNDP and the government of Denmark. Using funds from the Mykolaiv city budget, a major renovation was carried out there, and with the support of international partners furniture and necessary equipment were purchased.
In the modern spacious facility older people and other categories of citizens can learn native and foreign languages, study computer literacy, take part in creative workshops and develop their talents.
There are three locations for classes and recreation. Visitors are offered English and Ukrainian lessons, art therapy, psychological training, masterclasses, as well as training in a computer lab.
“The modern upgrade allows us to organize education, development and the socialization of people more effectively. After all, a person is strong — and our community is strong. And so we give people strength here – to fight, to stand up for themselves, to develop. So that we can return people to a peaceful course, so that we can provide people with the services they need”, – says the head of the day-stay department of the city territorial social assistance center in the Korabelnyi district, Olena Voronkova.
As she told Korabelov.info, the new center hosts meetings with charitable foundations and public organizations, cooperates with the police, provides free legal consultations and assists with issues related to the restoration of damaged property.
Representatives of city and district authorities and international partners attended the event.

During the ceremonial opening, city mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych emphasized the contribution of international partners and recalled that this very facility served as a distribution point for humanitarian aid during the active phase of the war.
“In such difficult times people need psychological relief. Spaces like this provide the opportunity to spend time in an interesting and useful way. We see that people are already coming here to socialize, learn foreign languages, master computers, sing. They experience real life despite the hardships of war”, – the mayor of Mykolaiv noted.

For his part, the Head of the Danish Embassy Office in Mykolaiv, Jakob Torrild Hansen, noted that the Kingdom is a reliable friend of the city. According to him, Denmark today pays attention not only to the restoration and development of critical infrastructure, but also to implementing projects aimed at improving urban services.
“We do this for the people of Mykolaiv. We want people to be comfortable living here”, — he emphasized.
And the UNDP Head of Regional Recovery in Ukraine, Ana Lukatela, said that the provision of quality social services is an important factor in the return of people who left because of the war.
“Such spaces are of great importance for the future of Mykolaiv”, — she emphasized.
