In Zaporizhzhia, two servicemen of the СЗЧ attacked police officers: one was shot dead, the other was detained
Shooting at dawn: in Zaporizhzhia, a police officer shot an attacker — he turned out to be СЗЧ
In Zaporizhzhia a police officer used service firearms during the detention of persons suspected of assault and an attempted robbery. The incident occurred 16 March around 06:30 in the Khortytskyi district of the city.
A patrol police unit arrived in response to a call about an attack on a man. At the scene the complainant pointed out to the officers two people who could have been involved in the crime. While establishing the circumstances, one of the men began to behave aggressively, did not comply with the officers’ orders to stop, and took out an object resembling a pistol. According to the police, he began to reload it and quickly approach the patrol officers.
The officer retreated to cover, but the suspect pursued him, threatening with the weapon. Due to a real threat to life, the police officer, acting under Article 46 of the Law of Ukraine “On the National Police”, opened fire and fired two shots.
After this, one of the attackers fled. The other attempted to use a pepper spray canister against the patrol officers and offered physical resistance, so he was detained using handcuffs.
Shortly after, near the scene of the incident, police officers found one of the attackers without signs of life. The identity of the deceased was established — he turned out to be a serviceman who had left his military unit without authorization. His accomplice is also recorded with the status СЗЧ.
An investigative-operational team and representatives of the State Bureau of Investigations are working at the scene. A service investigation has been appointed to determine the legality of the use of firearms and to establish all the circumstances of the incident.
