More than a thousand cannabis plants were grown in the yards of the Mykolaiv region
Seven people have been informed they are suspects; four have been detained
In the Mykolaiv region, law enforcement officers uncovered the illegal cultivation of hemp on household plots and the storage of already dried narcotic raw materials. During searches, they seized more than 1,000 plants of drug-containing plants and over 10 kilograms of cannabis.
The actions were carried out as part of the nationwide special operation «Gentlemen». It involved officers from the Department for Combating Drug Crime of the regional police headquarters, investigators from the investigative department, investigators and inquiry officers of the territorial units of all districts of the oblast, as well as local operatives.
The work was carried out under the procedural guidance of the district prosecutor’s offices and the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office. Law enforcement officers stopped the illegal cultivation of hemp and the storage of narcotic raw materials.
A number of sanctioned searches were conducted at the residences of the suspects. In addition to hemp plants, police seized dried and shredded cannabis and other material evidence. Four suspects were detained in the procedural manner.
After conducting the relevant examinations, investigators and inquiry officers notified seven suspects of suspicion. They are accused of illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation or sending of narcotics for the purpose of sale under parts 1 and 3 of Article 307 and parts 1 and 3 of Article 309 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The suspicions also concern the illegal sowing and cultivation of hemp under parts 1 and 2 of Article 310 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty for the charged offenses is up to eight years of imprisonment.
The court has already imposed preventive measures on all seven defendants. Pre-trial investigations are ongoing.
