More than 5 kg of cannabis and psychotropic substances: three men were exposed in Mykolaiv Oblast
Mephedrone, amphetamine, and 62 cannabis plants were found in the premises
As part of the large-scale nationwide special operation “Rubicon”, operatives of the Department for Combating Drug Crime, investigators of the Investigative Department of the regional police chief office of Mykolaiv region, Mykolaiv District Police Department and Police Station No. 4 of the district police department, with the participation of specialists from the Criminal Analysis Department, documented the illegal activities of three residents of the region involved in the illegal possession of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
During a set of operational and investigative measures, law enforcement officers conducted sanctioned searches at the places of residence of an 18-year-old Mykolaiv resident, a 36-year-old resident of Mykolaiv District and a 46-year-old resident of Voznesensk.
During the investigative actions, police seized more than 40 grams of mephedrone at the residence of the 18-year-old city resident, as well as hundreds of grams of other psychotropic substances and bags for their packaging.
Law enforcement established that the young man purchased batches of prohibited substances in advance, portioned them into doses for further sale.
A 36-year-old resident of one of the communities in Mykolaiv District operated in a similar manner. During a sanctioned search at the perpetrator’s residence, law enforcement officers seized more than 200 grams of amphetamine.
In Voznesensk District, police seized over 5 kilograms of cannabis and 62 cannabis plants that the 46-year-old man cultivated and stored on the territory of his household property.
All suspects were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The 18-year-old and 36-year-old detainees were notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — illegal acquisition and possession of especially dangerous psychotropic substances with intent to sell, if the subject of such actions were psychotropic substances in particularly large quantities. They face up to 12 years imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The 46-year-old perpetrator was charged under Part 3 of Article 309 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal manufacture, production, possession in particularly large quantities of narcotics without intent to sell, and under Part 2 of Article 310 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – planting or cultivating cannabis in the number of fifty or more plants. The article’s sanction provides for punishment of up to three years imprisonment.
At the request of the police investigators, the court imposed pre-trial detention as a preventive measure for the suspects.
Law enforcement officers are currently identifying the full circle of persons who may be involved in the illegal activity, as well as the origin and channels through which the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances reached the suspects.
The pre-trial investigation continues under the procedural supervision of the Mykolaiv regional and district prosecutor’s offices, as well as the regional specialized prosecutor’s office for defense of the Southern region.
