"The first strike came after half an hour": passengers recounted three attacks on the train "Kyiv — Mykolaiv"

September 16 Russian forces attacked the passenger train No.122 “Kyiv – Mykolaiv” three times on the section between Bashtanka and Novyi Buh in the Mykolaiv region. After the incident about 650 passengers were evacuated by buses to Mykolaiv. There are no fatalities or injuries among them.

The evacuees told reporters from “Suspilne“ that they were already at a safe distance from the train before the strikes began. Passenger Yurii noted that people had moved away from the carriages by varying distances.

“We were told — evacuation, we all got out: some went 100 meters, some 200. And then I heard an alarm somewhere in the village. And already about half an hour later there was the first strike,” said Yurii.

According to him, after the first strike the train was attacked two more times.

Passenger Khrystyna waited in a field with other people during the attack. She understood that the evacuees still faced danger.

“We were in the field, but it felt like we were not the target. But, of course, that possibility existed,” said Khrystyna.

The buses that transported passengers of the “Kyiv – Mykolaiv” service also took people who were supposed to travel in the opposite direction — the “Mykolaiv – Kyiv” train.

“I have a ticket for the morning “Mykolaiv – Kyiv” No.122. Since it was damaged, it did not arrive in the city. We are now waiting for a chance to get to the train where it is. And then, possibly, we will go to Kyiv,” a passenger said.

According to the regional military administration (RMA), due to the damage to the “Mykolaiv – Kyiv” train the “Lviv – Mykolaiv” train will also not be able to arrive at the terminal station. Its passengers are planned to be delivered to the city by buses. After the attack, train traffic to Mykolaiv has been disrupted.
