On October 31, two brothers aged 5 and 6 from the settlement of Klevan in Rivne Oblast traveled almost 100 kilometers by minibus without an adult. The boys set off to visit their aunt without their parents’ knowledge. According to the Rivne Oblast Police, the children were found, and their journey ended safely.

The brothers knew the way because their mother had taken them to visit their aunt several times before. Remembering the route, the boys decided to make the trip on their own. They brought their savings, which they used to pay for the ride and buy a cake for their aunt.

Their mother reported her sons missing to the police at around 09:30. The resident of Klevan said that the children had gone out to play about an hour earlier but had not returned home.

The search began immediately. The following joined the search of the surrounding area:

  • officers from the Police Department No. 1 in Rivne;
  • police dog handlers;
  • local residents.

Security camera footage helped determine which direction the boys had traveled. Community police officer Vasyl Dolgykh saw that the brothers had boarded a minibus to Rivne. According to the police, during the ride the boys actively chatted with passengers so that no one would suspect they were traveling without an adult.

They then transferred to a minibus to the village of Ivanivka in the Mlyniv community, where their aunt lives. Their relatives were already waiting for them when the boys got off.

Following the incident, juvenile police officers held a preventive conversation with the parents.
