115 more deaths than births: Mykolaiv’s August statistics
During the month, 197 children were born, including two sets of twins
In August 2026, 197 children were born in Mykolaiv, while 312 people died. Thus, the number of deaths exceeded the number of newborns by 115. Demographic and registration figures were announced during a staff meeting at the executive committee of the Mykolaiv City Council.
The head of the City Health Department, Iryna Shamray, said that among those born in August were 109 boys and 88 girls. Also during the month 2 sets of twins were born.
Since the beginning of 2026, a total of 1 354 children have been born in the city: 718 boys and 636 girls. Among the newborns there were 18 sets of twins.
The head of the municipal enterprise “Mykolaiv Funeral Service”, Serhiy Vasileha, clarified that during August 149 men and 163 women died — 312 people in total.
The director of the Department for the Provision of Administrative Services, Vladyslav Belan, reported that last month 1 140 residents registered their place of residence in Mykolaiv. At the same time, 1 801 people were removed from the register, including 695 — due to death.
From the beginning of the year until September 1, 2026, 6 414 people registered in the city, and 11 368 were removed from the register. In 4 255 cases the reason for removal from the register was death.
As of January 1, 2026, Mykolaiv had 391 368 registered persons. As of September 1, 2026, their number stood at 388 766, meaning it decreased by more than half a percent. Vladyslav Belan noted that this trend has already become customary.
Over the year the number of internally displaced persons in Mykolaiv increased by approximately 2.5 thousand. Almost 90% of the displaced people who are currently registering in the city arrive from Kherson.
