Almost three deaths for every newborn: what's happening to the population of the Korabelnyi District
95 births, 254 deaths: in Korabelnyi District deaths nearly triple births
A serious demographic imbalance persists in the Korabelnyi District of Mykolaiv: in the first half of 2026 among the population served by the Primary Health Care Center No. 7, almost three times more people died than were born.
This is stated in the official response of PHC Center No. 7 dated July 29, 2026 to an information request from the Korabelov.info editorial office. The information was provided by the acting director of the center, Svitlana Kursa.
In the first 6 months of 2026 in the service area of the medical facility, 95 children were born, while 254 people died. Thus, there were approximately 2,7 deaths for every newborn, and the natural population decline amounted to 159 people.
The birth rate was only 2,1 per 1,000 population, while the mortality rate was 5,5 per 1,000. The document separately notes that the infant mortality rate was 10,5‰.
As of July 1, 2026, 45 775 residents of the Korabelnyi District had declarations with doctors of PHC Center No. 7. Among them were 7 403 children and 24 861 working-age people. These are the center’s registered patients specifically, so these figures should not be considered the total population of the entire district.
At the same time, the demographic situation remains persistently negative. According to the Korabelnyi civil registry office (DRAЦС), in the first half of 2025 there were 159 children born in the entire district, and 433 people died — the ratio was also about 2,7 to 1. Absolute figures for 2025 and 2026 cannot be compared directly, since the registry covered the whole district, while the current response concerns the service area of PHC Center No. 7.
The situation was even worse in the first year of the full-scale Russian invasion. By the end of 2022, 174 newborns and 852 deaths were registered in the Korabelnyi District — there were 4,9 times more deaths.
