Kicked a pensioner in the head near a shop in the Korabelnyi District
The victim was hospitalized; the attacker faces up to eight years in prison
In Mykolaiv, a sudden verbal altercation near a shop ended with the hospitalization of a 62-year-old man. A stranger kicked him in the head and fled the scene.
On August 25, medical workers informed the operators of the emergency line 102 that a 62-year-old man who had been beaten by an unknown person was brought to the hospital.
Police officers of the investigative-operational team of Police Department No. 3 of the Mykolaiv District Directorate, which serves the Korabelnyi district, established the circumstances of the attack. According to the investigation, in the evening near a shop in one of Mykolaiv‘s neighborhoods a verbal conflict arose between two strangers.
During the altercation, the attacker kicked the victim in the head, after which he left the scene. The injured man was hospitalized in a medical facility, where he remains.
Within a few hours, officers of Police Department No. 3 identified the suspected attacker and located him. He was a 24-year-old local resident who had previously faced criminal charges on multiple occasions.
Investigators detained the man in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
With the consent of the District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Mykolaiv, the detainee was notified of suspicion under part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — “Intentional grievous bodily injury”.
The article’s sanction provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 8 years. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
