In Mykolaiv, a blow to the face during a nighttime fight proved fatal for an 18-year-old man
A conflict took place near the supermarket on Cosmonauts Street
At night on 17 August in Mykolaiv near a supermarket on Kosmonavtiv Street during a conflict an 18-year-old young man sustained fatal injuries. According to the police, one of the participants in the fight struck him in the face, after which the victim fell and lost consciousness.
At about 00:35 witnesses reported to the emergency number 102 that a fight was taking place near the retail outlet and one of the men was unresponsive.
Patrol officers, the investigative-operational team of Police Unit No. 2 of the Mykolaiv district directorate, forensic experts, investigators, operatives of the regional headquarters and medical personnel arrived at the scene. Doctors attempted to resuscitate the victim, but he died at the scene.
According to law enforcement based on witness statements, the conflict arose between the young man and two unknown youths. After the blow both left the scene, but patrol officers soon located them nearby.
A 23-year-old man was detained in accordance with procedural law and charged under Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional grievous bodily harm that caused the victim’s death.
The sanction of the article provides for up to 10 years imprisonment. A court is expected to set a preventive measure in the near future; the pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
