In Mykolaiv, the driver of a Daewoo Lanos ran over a pedestrian who later died
The indictment was sent to the court
9 June on Troitska Street in Mykolaiv a road traffic accident occurred. A 54-year-old driver of a Daewoo Lanos struck a 60-year-old man who was crossing the roadway outside a pedestrian crossing, at a non-designated location.
The victim sustained injuries and later died in a medical facility.
Investigators of the department for investigation of crimes in the field of transport of the investigative directorate notified the driver of suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by persons driving vehicles, which caused the death of the victim.
The pre-trial investigation has now been completed, and the criminal proceedings were sent to the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors forwarded the indictment to the court for consideration on the merits.
The defendant faces up to 8 years imprisonment with possible deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to 3 years.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
