Refused to lend money — suffered stab wounds: in Mykolaiv a quarrel between acquaintances became a police case

A domestic dispute escalated into a serious crime: a Mykolaiv resident faces up to eight years in prison

In Mykolaiv police detained a 53-year-old man suspected of seriously wounding an acquaintance with a knife. This was reported by the May 15 2026 by the Mykolaiv region police.

According to law enforcement, during an argument the suspect inflicted stab wounds to the acquaintance’s back and chest, after which he fled the scene. The victim was hospitalized; his condition is currently assessed by doctors as serious.

A report about the incident on the premises of an auto-garage cooperative in one of the neighborhoods of Mykolaiv was received by the police in the evening of May 13. A security guard contacted law enforcement. He heard cries for help, approached one of the garages and saw a man with stab wounds. He immediately called medics and the police. Investigators of the investigative-operational group and officers of Police Department No.1 of the Mykolaiv District Police, employees of the criminal investigation department and the investigative department, the forensic laboratory, and medics arrived at the scene. The 51-year-old victim with stab wounds to the chest and back was taken to the hospital. He is currently under doctors’ supervision.

During initial investigative and operational measures, law enforcement with the participation of specialists from the criminal analysis department of the regional police headquarters established that a 53-year-old acquaintance of the victim may be involved in the crime. He was located on one of the streets of the regional center. According to the police, the men had been inside the victim’s garage. The cause of the conflict, as established by officers, was the victim’s refusal to lend the suspect money. During the quarrel the suspect inflicted multiple stab wounds on his opponent. Police detained the man in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The weapon of the crime – the knife blade – as well as other physical evidence were seized by law enforcement and sent for expert examination.

Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Mykolaiv City District Prosecutor’s Office, have informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional grievous bodily harm. Under the charged article the man faces up to eight years’ imprisonment. A court is expected to choose a preventive measure for the suspect in the near future. The pre-trial investigation continues.
