The Central District Court of Mykolaiv found a 33-year-old local resident with previous convictions guilty of inflicting serious stab wounds on two men. The court’s press service reported this on July 14, 2026.

The incident occurred at night on February 8, 2025 in an apartment in a building on Sevastopolska Street. The defendant, together with others present, was consuming alcoholic beverages. During the conflict he stabbed in the torso a 39-year-old man and his 25-year-old nephew. After that the man threw the knife at the older victim’s head, causing a cut to his cheek. Medical personnel classified the injuries of both victims as serious.

At trial the defendant did not plead guilty. He claimed that that day he was attending a memorial gathering for the mother of the 39-year-old victim; besides them there were relatives of the victim and acquaintances. The 25-year-old man, after some time, began provoking a conflict; the defendant suggested they go outside to smoke, and he had with him a knife that he used to slice food. The victim ran into that knife as they were leaving.

Then a 39-year-old man came out to them, and upon seeing the situation began to behave aggressively and made threats. The defendant became angry, took a knife from the room, threw it toward the man; the knife struck the wall, broke, and part of the handle scratched the latter’s cheek. The court took a critical view of these explanations, since they contradicted the examined evidence and the witnesses’ testimony.

As a result of the proceedings the man was found guilty under part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and was given a final sentence of eight years of imprisonment. The case was heard by Judge Serhiy Medyuk.
