Greeted special forces with bullets: a man in СЗЧ wounded two police officers and shot himself

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a man who since September 2024 had been classified as a person who had unlawfully left a military unit opened aimed fire at police officers during a search. The regional police reported this on July 16, 2026.

The investigative actions were carried out within the framework of a criminal proceeding concerning fraud on an especially large scale and the illegal smuggling of people across the state border. Investigators, operatives of the Department of Strategic Investigations and KORD special forces took part in the search. According to the police, the suspect opened fire with a weapon and wounded two KORD fighters. They were hospitalized; there is no threat to the officers’ lives.

After the shooting, the man remained in the house and, according to law enforcement, committed suicide by a gunshot to the head. Investigators, forensic experts and other relevant services are working on site. The weapon has been seized; the circumstances of the incident are being established.
