A document check ended in the death of a police officer: law enforcement are searching for an armed attacker
He had no driving license, and now he's wanted: attack on the police during the war
In Khmelnytskyi district police are searching for a man suspected of an armed attack on law enforcement officers. The incident occurred on 15 May 2026 at around 14:35 in the village of Terlivka of the Letychiv territorial community.
According to the National Police of Ukraine, officers were checking the documents of a driver who had been deprived of the right to drive vehicles by a court decision. During this check the man, according to preliminary data, committed an armed attack on law enforcement officers. Ukrainian media also reported the incident citing the National Police. As a result of the attack one police officer was killed. Another officer sustained bodily injuries.
After the crime the suspect fled the scene. Operational-search measures are currently underway to determine his whereabouts and detain him. A special police operation has been introduced in the territory of Khmelnytskyi district. Investigative-operational teams, forensic experts and the regional police leadership are working at the scene. Law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances and motives of the crime.
