Senkevych did not give the floor to Fedorova and Kurkurina during the closure of three kindergartens

The Education Committee says that the premises will remain city property and their purpose will be determined separately; some deputies warn of a post‑war shortage of places in preschools

During a session of the Mykolaiv City Council the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Senkevych, denied civic activists Anna Kurkurina and Svitlana Fedorova the right to speak, although they came to urge deputies not to support the closure of kindergartens, and advised interested persons to register in advance through the official website.

The session took place in a hybrid format: some deputies were present in the session hall, others participated online. Before the start of the meeting the activists asked the mayor to give them the floor, but he reminded them of the established procedure of prior registration and refused. After that, despite emotional appeals from the hall, the mayor continued to communicate with the deputies and to conduct the session.

«— We ask journalists to record the fact that we, as representatives of the community, requested to speak, — Svitlana Fedorova addresses the media. — If the mayor does not give us the floor, we will say why we came. At this session they have gathered to liquidate kindergartens, which are already very scarce in Mykolaiv. We ask journalists, the community and those deputies who still have conscience and honor not to vote for the liquidation of kindergartens. During the mayor’s term not a single kindergarten has been built in the city of Mykolaiv in 10 years.», — said Svitlana Fedorova.

«— The city hears me. I have half a million followers. I’m going to leave this mess now and explain why we are here. They are going to close kindergartens. Here is the head of our city, the mayor, bringing to your attention the closure of kindergartens. I, as a coach who trains children, who cares about the Kherson region, there aren’t enough kindergartens. Mykolaiv is known thanks to Anna Kurkurina. And I have the right to say my opinion now, — she said.», — said Anna Kurkurina.

«— You see how the mayor is afraid, how all his supporters are afraid of us speaking, — said Svitlana Fedorova. — I can’t understand who among you are deputies? Guys, vote to hear me. Give us the floor, — shouted Anna Kurkurina.», — noted Svitlana Fedorova and Anna Kurkurina.

«— It is difficult for me to speak, because the people who call themselves community representatives create not order, but some… Moreover, one of them is a former member of the regional council, — commented Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych.», — commented Oleksandr Senkevych.

This is very bad, because the city of Mykolaiv is essentially almost on a combat footing, and problems are being blown up where they do not exist.
