A man was selling grenades and a grenade launcher to acquaintances in Mykolaiv region
A Pervomaisk resident was remanded in custody with the right to post bail
In Pervomaisk, Mykolaiv region, police detained a 46-year-old local man immediately after he sold a grenade launcher and the bodies of two grenades with fuzes. According to police, the man had set up a weapons and ammunition operation in the city, selling them for money and seeking buyers among people he knew.
The illegal trade was uncovered and stopped under the procedural supervision of the prosecutor’s office. The following units took part:
- investigators and officers from the Pervomaisk District Police Department;
- officers from the Criminal Investigation Department of the regional police;
- specialists from the Criminal Analysis Department of the regional police headquarters.
After another sale, investigators detained the man under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. At the scene, police seized the money he had received for the illegally sold grenade launcher and grenade bodies with fuzes.
Urgent investigative actions were also carried out at the detainee’s home. There, police seized a magazine for an automatic firearm and ammunition for it. All seized items were sent to experts for examination.
Under the procedural supervision of the Pervomaisk Department of the Mykolaiv Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the Southern Region’s Defense Sector, investigators notified the man that he was suspected of committing the crime provided for under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on two counts. The charges concern the unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives. He faces a maximum sentence of up to 7 years in prison.
The court ordered the suspect held in custody for 2 months, with the option of posting bail. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
