Arsenal for sale: two men in Mykolaiv region were selling grenades, TNT and grenade launchers
The suspects were detained after another weapons sale
Two residents of Pivdennoukrainsk in the Mykolaiv region organized the trafficking of weapons and ammunition. The men, aged 26 and 46, were detained immediately after another sale and were later notified of suspicion.
According to the investigation, the suspects sold weapons and ammunition for money to a limited circle of individuals and divided the proceeds among themselves. During the latest sale they illegally handed over:
- 410 rounds of various calibers;
- 5 grenade bodies;
- 3 fuzes;
- 2 TNT charges;
- 2 handheld anti-tank grenade launchers.
After the detention, law enforcement officers seized the money obtained from the sale at the scene. During sanctioned searches of the men’s residences, they also found a grenade body and a fuze. The seized items were sent for examination.
The men were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Mykolaiv Specialized Prosecution Office in the Field of Defense of the Southern Region, informed them of suspicion of committing two counts of the crime provided for in part 2 of Article 28 and part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosive substances, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy and repeatedly.
The court imposed preventive measures on the suspects in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail. They face up to 7 years of imprisonment.
Law enforcement officers are determining where the suspects obtained the weapons. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
