He broke down a locked door: in Mykolaiv Oblast, a man rescued two children from a fire

In the Mykolaiv region, Oleh Nastiushenko from the village of Sofiivka rescued two children from a burning house: nine-year-old Tymofii and three-year-old Albina. Thanks to his help, the children were safe before firefighters arrived.

The man learned about the fire by phone from a friend with the State Emergency Service. His friend said that a house nearby was burning, with children still inside. Oleh rushed to help: he forced open the locked door and reached the children.

All this time, Tymofii and Albina were in danger. An operator at the operational communications unit of the State Emergency Service in the Mykolaiv region spoke to them by phone. She calmed the children and stayed with them, helping them wait for rescue.

This was not the first time Oleh Nastiushenko had helped rescuers: he had previously taken part in fighting fires. This time, his determination helped save the children’s lives.

The man was personally thanked for his courage and compassion by:
