A driver struck a pedestrian and fled the scene in Kyiv region: a prosecutor is implicated in the case
The prosecutor has been detained; the notice of suspicion is still being prepared
A prosecutor from the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine was detained in the Kyiv region on suspicion of causing a fatal crash. The accident occurred on the evening of October 15 near the village of Stavyshche. A 36-year-old man was killed.
According to preliminary information, the driver of a Renault struck a pedestrian and then left the scene. The victim’s body was found on the morning of October 16 near a public transport stop not far from the M-05 highway.
That same day, the prosecutor contacted law enforcement. He admitted to being involved in the crash and indicated where the car that had allegedly struck the pedestrian was located.
At the time of the incident, the prosecutor was on childcare leave and was not performing his official duties. He was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
A notice of suspicion is now being prepared under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This provision concerns violations of traffic safety rules by a driver that result in a victim’s death. The authorities are also considering whether to place the prosecutor in pretrial detention.
