A drunk driver in Mykolaiv Oblast fatally struck a man, took him to a neighbor and hid the car in a hangar
Breathalyzer — 1.4‰; the pedestrian died on the way to the hospital, a suspicion has been announced under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine
In the night of May 16, near the village of Mostove at about 3:00 a.m., the driver of a VAZ, while intoxicated, struck a man and left the scene; the victim died en route to the hospital. The driver was later detained by Mykolaiv police.
According to the investigation, at the wheel was a 37-year-old man, who had 1.4 per mille of alcohol in his blood, and the pedestrian, 47, at the time of the impact was sitting on a dirt road near Mostove.
After the collision, the driver put the injured man on the back seat of the VAZ, drove him to a fellow villager’s house and asked to call an ambulance, explaining that his phone was dead, then drove off and hid the car in a hangar at his workplace.
The injuries proved to be incompatible with life, and the victim died while being transported to the medical facility.
Law enforcement officers identified the driver’s identity and location, seized the vehicle and informed him of suspicion under part 3 of Art. 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine; the pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Details were published on the police website of the Mykolaiv region.
