September 12, the daughter of a 51-year-old resident of the Bratska community contacted the police. She said that her mother had not been in touch for almost a week.

Police launched a search operation, interviewed the missing woman’s relatives, neighbors and acquaintances, and also checked possible reasons why she might not have reported her whereabouts.

Employees of the Criminal Investigation Department, investigators of the Investigative Department, operatives and investigators of the Police Station No. 1 of the Voznesensk District Police Department, as well as specialists from the Criminal Analysis Department, joined the search and investigation. During operational-search activities they determined the probable involvement of the woman’s 54-year-old cohabitant in her disappearance.

According to the police, the man and the woman had been drinking alcohol when a quarrel broke out between them. The suspect struck the victim with a chair to the head and torso. The injuries proved to be incompatible with life.

Investigators believe that after his cohabitant’s death the man tried to conceal the crime: he placed her body on a wheelbarrow and took it to the dump at the end of the household plot. There he covered the body with soil and household garbage.

The man, who had previously come to the attention of law enforcement, was detained pursuant to Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Under the procedural guidance of the Voznesensk District Prosecutor’s Office, investigators notified the detainee of suspicion of intentional homicide under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s penalty provides for up to 15 years imprisonment.

A court is expected to decide on a preventive measure for the suspect in the near future. The pre-trial investigation continues.
