3.0‰ behind the wheel: Toyota overturned into a ditch in Mykolaiv Oblast
A 15-year-old female passenger with severe injuries is in a medical facility
In the evening of September 13 on highway R-75 “Tymkove — Balta — Pervomaisk — Domanivka — Oleksandrivka” a Toyota Avensis drove into a ditch and overturned. A 15-year-old passenger sustained serious injuries and is in a medical facility.
The accident happened at about 22:00. According to preliminary police data, the 35-year-old driver was heading toward the settlement of Domanivka, lost control and ran off the road, after which the car overturned.
The driver and another 35-year-old passenger were not injured. Police noticed obvious signs of intoxication in the driver, and the examination showed 3.0 per mille of alcohol.
Investigators detained the man in procedural order in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He was notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of road safety rules or vehicle operation by a person who drives while intoxicated, if this caused the victim serious bodily injury.
The article’s sanction provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment with disqualification from driving vehicles for up to 8 years. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
