Missile strike on Odesa: mother killed in front of her children
Two killed and eight wounded: the aftermath of the overnight strike on Odesa
In the evening of 16 July 2026, at around 23:00, Russian forces launched a missile strike on the Khadzhibeyskyi district of Odesa. As a result of the attack two people were killed, reported the head of the city military administration, Serhiy Lysak.
Among the dead was a woman who, during the air-raid warning, was walking in a park with children. The mother died at the scene; the children survived. Psychologists from the State Emergency Service (DSNS) provided assistance to them and to witnesses.
Initial reports spoke of ten wounded. As of 07:00 on 17 July the information was clarified: eight people were wounded, among the victims are children.
The strike damaged 11 residential buildings, including a three-storey building, as well as residents’ cars. Clearing the aftermath of the attack continued through the night.
The State Emergency Service (DSNS) stressed that there are no safe places outdoors during an air-raid warning, so it is necessary to stay in shelters.
