A court in Mykolaiv Oblast imposed a fine of 850 UAH on a mother for beating her foster daughter with a jump rope
The child is temporarily residing with a foster family, and the woman has admitted guilt and is working with a psychologist
The Pervomaiskyi City District Court of the Mykolaiv Region found a woman guilty of intentionally inflicting minor bodily injuries on her daughter for an incident that occurred at the end of April 2026.
The decision is reported in the Unified State Register of Court Decisions.
According to the case materials, during a conflict over the child’s unwillingness to do her reading homework the mother struck her on the back with a jump rope 3–5 times. Experts recorded linear bruises on the right shoulder and in the subscapular area, which were classified as minor bodily injuries.
Documents of the case indicate that at the time the defendant’s husband was at work, and she was caring for seven children on her own, and the youngest had a fever the day before. Because of fatigue, the mother reacted to her daughter’s refusal to read and, unable to obtain compliance by persuasion, took the jump rope and struck her approximately five times.
In court the woman fully admitted guilt, explained her behavior by exhaustion from caring for the children and expressed remorse. She stated that she is working with a psychologist, and the child is temporarily staying with a foster (patronage) family, maintaining contact with her mother.
The court counted sincere remorse and admission of guilt among mitigating circumstances, while the infliction of beatings on a close relative was considered an aggravating circumstance.
As a result, a punishment in the form of a fine in the amount of 850 hryvnias was imposed, which corresponds to 50 non-taxable minimums.
