Officially opening beaches in Mykolaiv during the war is currently impossible due to security risks and the lack of funds for shelters, rescue stations, and other necessary infrastructure. At the same time, the city authorities are ready to cooperate with entrepreneurs who want to equip recreation areas.

This, Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych said in a comment PN.

According to the mayor, the main problem remains financing. The city budget did not allocate funds for arranging beaches and installing shelters.

“All this requires financial resources. The most important thing is the installation of shelters. At the moment we do not have money for this; no funds were allocated in the budget”.

The city appealed to the state to provide 1 billion hryvnias in support. Under such conditions, as Oleksandr Senkevych noted, it would be inappropriate to direct budget funds to organize beach recreation.

At the same time, the mayor urged entrepreneurs to contact the city council with proposals for arranging recreation areas.

“We are trying to engage business and encourage businessmen to contact us, the city council, through the housing and communal services department with proposals for arranging zones. We will help within the framework of current legislation in all places where this is possible”.

As an example of such cooperation, Oleksandr Senkevych cited the initiative of entrepreneur Volodymyr Alekseyev, who proposed to equip one of the recreation areas.

At the same time, not all coastal areas can be handed over for such projects. In particular, the beach “Strilka” has restrictions because it belongs to the nature reserve fund.

Despite the official ban, on hot days Mykolaiv residents massively relax by the water. According to the mayor, even people who do not swim need a place where they can hide during an air raid alert.

“I think it would be desirable to provide shelters there. If people gather on the beach, even if they do not swim, but just rest or play beach volleyball, they should have the opportunity to hide somewhere”.

Because the beaches are not officially open, the city authorities legally cannot finance rescue stations and a full beach infrastructure.

According to preliminary estimates, just mobile shelters for areas near the water will cost at least 6 million hryvnias.

“I think that for shelters now you need at least six million. These are mobile shelters, like at bus stops”.

Oleksandr Senkevych suggested that, given the resources, by the next summer season in Mykolaiv they could at least install shelters for people who relax by the water.
