Ukraine and Germany signed a missile defense agreement to intercept Russian ballistic missiles
Announced at "Ramstein" in Brussels: the parties will combine their technologies to jointly develop countermeasure systems with the participation of Ukrainian Fire Point
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov and the Minister of Defense of Germany Boris Pistorius signed an agreement on the joint development of missile defense systems; this was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky during a meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group in the “Ramstein” format in Brussels June 18.
According to the president, the agreement is aimed at combining the technological capabilities of both countries in the field of missile defense in order to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to counter airborne threats.
“Ukraine and Germany are taking a very important, in my view, joint step. We have certain technologies, certain technologies are in Germany. And today our defense ministers have already signed an agreement to combine these capabilities together. There is a company in Ukraine that is capable of producing ballistic missiles, Fire Point is moving toward that. And you have capable companies too,” — said President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
He specifically emphasized that Russia continues to rely on missile strikes, so it is critically important for Ukraine to develop anti-missile, in particular anti-ballistic, capabilities.
“He (Putin – ed.) has ballistic missiles, so we need anti-missile capabilities… We defend ourselves against cruise missiles, but Russian ballistic missiles remain a problem, and we need an answer to this problem,” — emphasized President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
