In the Mykolaiv region, the tail of the pancreas and the spleen were removed laparoscopically for the first time

In Mykolaiv Oblast, surgeons of the Mykolaiv Regional Oncology Center performed a laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy for the first time — a minimally invasive removal of the distal part of the pancreas together with the spleen.

The surgical intervention was performed on a patient with adenocarcinoma of the pancreatic tail at disease stage IB and morphological characterization pT2pN0cM0.

The medical facility explains that for tumors in this location a laparoscopic approach is safe and effective, and compared with open surgeries provides less postoperative pain, a lower likelihood of complications, and a shorter rehabilitation period.

After the procedure, the patient was discharged from the hospital in satisfactory condition as early as on the 6th day.

The institution emphasizes that the successful performance of such procedures demonstrates the progress of oncological surgery in the region, and the team of physicians continues to implement modern treatment methods and expand the range of high-tech care for oncology patients.
