Mother climbed out of the window, covered in blood: Mykolaiv residents rushed to rescue the wounded family

On the night of 12 June 2026, Russian forces attacked Mykolaiv with strike drones of the “Shahed” type. Powerful explosions rang out in the city, damaging private houses and cars, and three members of one family were injured.

The injured were a 40-year-old woman, her 39-year-old husband and their 18-year-old daughter. All three were hospitalized. The man’s condition in the morning was assessed as severe, the two women as moderate. The house where the family lived was destroyed. A large fire broke out there after the strike. Local residents rushed to help the victims before rescuers and medics arrived, tried to extinguish the fire and called emergency services.

Local resident Halyna, who ran to the burning house together with neighbors, told correspondents of “Suspilne”:

“There was a strong fire, the owner was very badly hurt — with severe burns, and his leg is terrible, of course, it’s frightening. The homeowner, apparently, climbed out the window — all covered in blood, very scary. Their daughter — 18 years old — was also very frightened, she was also all covered in blood. They immediately began to call the ambulance, the firefighters, they ran to help,” – Halyna said.

Neighbors did not wait for the arrival of emergency crews: people dragged hoses to the burning house and tried to hold back the fire with whatever they had on hand:

“We heard a loud explosion, we were scared. We ran immediately to help people. To extinguish, to pull hoses, whatever people had, until the State Emergency Service (DSNS) and ambulances arrived,” – Halyna added.

Another local resident, also named Halyna, woke up at night and was heading to the toilet when a loud explosion occurred. The woman felt the impact of the blast wave and pain in her head.

“I had just come out, wanted to go to the toilet, and it went bang right here into my head, apparently by the wave, I still have poor hearing and my head hurts. It was a loud sound, God! What are they, bastards, doing, Lord!” – Halyna recounted in despair.

The blast wave destroyed part of the roof in the woman’s home and blew out the windows. Shards of glass and frames scattered through the hallway, the kitchen and the living rooms:

“Everything: in the hallway, in the house, in the kitchen — everything is lying on the floor, nothing is left. In the hallway and in the kitchen everything was completely knocked out with the frames. I’m waiting for the police, God willing, they’ll come. And the roof was torn apart too,” – the local resident cried.

Local resident Klavdiia that night was staying at her daughter’s and grandson’s. The family first heard one powerful explosion, and almost immediately after it – a second.

“We heard one explosion, and then a second explosion. The alarm went off, I jumped up, the little one got scared too,” – Klavdiia said.

When Klavdiia returned to her home in the morning, police and rescuers were already working nearby:

“Everything: the windows, the doors are damaged. Everything shattered, there’s even no roof,” – the homeowner said.

In total, as a result of falling debris and the blast wave, 14 private households were damaged, of which two were destroyed. Two cars were also damaged. Emergency and municipal services were working at the scene of the Russian attack. Workers were clearing the area of debris and preparing OSB boards to temporarily cover the blown-out windows in damaged homes. The foreman of the municipal enterprise “Pilot” Viktor Andriievskyi reported that two private houses were completely destroyed as a result of the strike.
