Students of Lyceum No. 58 from the Korabelnyi District competed in an FPV piloting competition among schoolchildren from the Mykolaiv region
War is changing schools: In Mykolaiv, teenagers are already competing in drone piloting
In Mykolaiv youth military-patriotic competitions of FPV drone operators took place, dedicated to Heroes’ Day and Day of the Marine Corps of Ukraine. The participation of its students was reported by Mykolaiv Lyceum No. 58, which is located in the Korabelnyi district.
The tournament was held with the support of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration and the Mykolaiv Regional Center for National-Patriotic Education, Tourism and Local History. Schoolchildren from various communities of the Mykolaiv region joined the event; they are interested in FPV piloting and are already trying themselves in a field that during the war has become one of the most important for the Ukrainian military.
Mykolaiv Lyceum No. 58, which is located in the Korabelnyi district, was represented at the competitions by students Andriy Tutov, 9-A class, and Zakhar Dibrov, 11-B class. For the students it was not just a game or a technical club, but an opportunity to test their drone piloting skills in a competitive format.
A special guest of the event was a Hero of Ukraine, Colonel Viktor Sikoza, who in 2022-2024 headed the 36th Brigade. His presence gave the tournament special significance, since the Marine Corps became one of the symbols of the resilience of the Ukrainian military during the full-scale war.
As a result of the competitions, young pilots received not only awards but also incentive gifts from the Mykolaiv marines. This format is important for teenagers: it combines technical skills, team spirit, respect for the military, and an understanding that modern defense of the country requires knowledge, discipline, and responsibility. Against the backdrop of constant Russian attacks, FPV drones have long ceased to be only a topic of frontline reports. For Ukrainian schoolchildren, it is also a direction of technological education that can become the basis for future engineering, military, or volunteer projects.
